Quick question, Reader, If your approach to fashion had an element, which one would you be? No birth chart required. 🔮 I’ve been thinking about how differently designers approach their ideas, their businesses and even technology, and I think most of us fall naturally into one of these four: 🔥 FIRE: The Idea Generator Your brain is always creating. One idea turns into three more, inspiration can strike anywhere, and once you get excited about a design, you want to GO. Your superpower: Creativity, energy and vision. Your potential blind spot: Moving so quickly that you skip some of the steps needed to turn the idea into something other people can clearly understand and execute. 🌊 WATER: The Adapter You like to explore. You’re comfortable changing direction, testing ideas and allowing a collection or business to evolve as you learn more. Your superpower: Flexibility and the ability to respond to what’s happening around you. Your potential blind spot: So many possibilities can make it harder to decide what stays, what goes and what actually makes sense for your customer and your business. 🌬️ AIR: The Visionary You can SEE it. The silhouette. The fabric. The movement. The entire collection. Sometimes you can picture the finished idea long before there’s anything tangible in front of you. Your superpower: Imagination and seeing possibilities others may not see yet. Your potential blind spot: Translating that vision into something you can actually evaluate, refine and eventually share with other people. 🌱 EARTH: The Builder You want to know how it’s going to work. Measurements. Construction. Materials. Details. Process. You understand that a beautiful idea eventually has to become a real product. Your superpower: Practical thinking and attention to detail. Your potential blind spot: Getting so deep into the details that you overthink, overwork or make the process more complicated than it needs to be. Now, here’s the fun part: most designers probably have a little FIRE, WATER, AIR and EARTH in them. But I have a feeling one of those descriptions made you think, "Yep. That’s me." 😂 And your dominant element can tell you a lot about the parts of the fashion design process that come naturally to you . . . and the areas where the right tools, systems or skills could make your life a whole lot easier. Over the next few emails, I’m going to break down each element and show you how to lean into your strengths while strengthening the areas that may not come quite as naturally. But first, I want to know which fashion element are YOU? 🔥 FIRE Hit reply, and send me your element. You don’t even have to explain yourself. Just send me FIRE, WATER, AIR or EARTH. I have a feeling the results will be interesting. 👀 |
