Manufacturers Don't Want Your AI Generated Tech Pack

Over the past year, I’ve seen several posts on LinkedIn from people talking about how they received terrible tech packs that they knew right away were AI generated. I don’t object to the use of AI for tech packs. Done right, I actually welcome it. And if a manufacturer gets what they need to make a decent sample, I’m sure they wouldn’t object either. The problem isn’t so much that the tech pack was AI generated. The problem is the AI generated tech pack makes no sense! The point of the tech pack is to create an instruction manual to make a physical replica of your design. But if the instructions aren’t clear or are non-sensical, a manufacturer can’t do their job. And the issue usually isn’t just that the designer didn’t feel like creating the tech pack; it’s that they don’t actually know what’s supposed to be in it or how to get that information. When i created my tech pack course, I knew that it was not only important to show what information needed to be in the tech pack but also how to get that information, which is often the bigger issue for new designers (even some of my designers who went to fashion school.)
