Can AI Fashion Tools Really Draw Your Flat Sketches?

I recently got a comment that made me pause, Reader. Someone called Illustrator "antiquated" and asked if AI hasn't mastered flat sketch creation yet.

It's a fair question in 2025, right? With all these AI photo-to-sketch tools popping up everywhere.

So I decided to test it out and share what I discovered in this week's video.

The short answer? AI can create sketches, but they're often unusable for actual design work.

The longer answer involves:

  • File structures that make you want to cry
  • Thousands of anchor points where you need dozens
  • Layers stacked on layers with no logic
  • More cleanup time than just starting from scratch

Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-AI. But I am pro-using the right tool for the job.

Sometimes that shiny new technology isn't actually more efficient. Sometimes your foundational skills are still your fastest path to quality results.

Check out this week's YouTube video to see what you'd be dealing with if you decide to use those photo to vector sketch AI tools and why clean, editable flat sketches still matter.

And if you're realizing you might want to strengthen those Illustrator skills, you know where to find my course 😉

P.S. What's your take? Are you team AI tools or team traditional skills for tasks like this? Hit reply and let me know!
