Brand Positioning Comes Before Design

One of the biggest mistakes I see new fashion brands make isn't bad design. It's bad brand positioning.

Many designers tell me they're building a "luxury" brand. But when we look at the numbers, the product, the customer, and the pricing strategy, what they're actually creating often falls into an entirely different market category.

And that's okay.

The problem isn't the category. The problem is when your pricing, product quality, target customer, and brand positioning don't align.

When that happens:

  • You attract customers who can't afford your products.
  • You underprice your garments because you're guessing instead of calculating.
  • You sacrifice profit to make your products "affordable."
  • You create confusion about what your brand actually represents.

Brand positioning isn't just a marketing exercise. It influences everything:
✔️ Product development
✔️ Material selection
✔️ Pricing strategy
✔️ Packaging
✔️ Marketing
✔️ Brand identity

In my latest YouTube video, I explain where most emerging brands actually fit and discuss why understanding your position in the market should happen before you start designing.

Building a profitable fashion brand requires more than creativity. It requires strategy.
