Being a talented fashion designer isn’t enough anymore. Your ability to design still matters, of course. But if you’re trying to build a fashion business today, there are a lot more skills competing for your attention. You may be designing the product, communicating with manufacturers, reviewing samples, creating content, managing your website, figuring out pricing and trying to understand your customer, sometimes all at the same time. And technology is becoming a bigger part of all of it. That doesn’t mean you need to learn every new platform or jump on every new trend. But I do think it’s important to understand what these tools can do and where they might actually help. Maybe that means using Illustrator to communicate your design more clearly. Maybe it means using CLO3D to visualize a garment before investing in another physical sample. Maybe it means creating a stronger tech pack so there’s less confusion between you and your manufacturer. Or maybe it means using AI to help with research, planning, organization or another part of your business that takes up more time than it should. The point isn’t to use technology just because it’s available. It’s to look at where your process is slow, confusing, expensive or inefficient and ask, "Is there a tool that could make this easier?" For independent designers especially, that can make a real difference. You may not have a large team or an unlimited budget, so anything that helps you save time, communicate more clearly or avoid unnecessary mistakes can give you more room to focus on building the brand. You don’t need to use every tool. But you should understand what’s available, what problem it solves and whether it can actually help your business. And since there are so many areas we could get into, I want to know what would actually be useful to you. What part of fashion technology are you most interested in learning more about right now? AI? CLO3D? Digital Product development? Manufacturing technology? Something else? Hit reply and tell me. Your answer may become one of my next videos. |
